Baby Massage Classes with Tiny Touch Therapy: Learning gentle touch in class or at home
Introducing Tiny Touch Therapy
Alongside my mobile massage treatments for women through Suffolk Massage Therapy, I also offer baby massage classes under the name Tiny Touch Therapy.
Tiny Touch Therapy is all about helping parents and families learn gentle, nurturing positive touch techniques for their babies and children, in a calm and supportive way. Baby massage is one way of learning just that!
Baby massage can be a lovely opportunity to slow down, connect with your baby, and build confidence with positive touch. It is not about doing everything perfectly. It is about learning simple, gentle techniques that you can use at home in a way that feels comfortable for both you and your baby.
My baby massage classes run as a 5-week course at Monks Eleigh Village Hall, IP7 7JL, with six courses running per year. I also offer 1:1 teaching in people’s homes, so the whole family can learn together in a familiar, relaxed environment.
What is baby massage?
Baby massage is a gentle way of using positive touch with your baby.
During a baby massage class, you learn simple strokes and techniques that can be used on areas such as your baby’s legs, feet, tummy, chest, arms, hands, back, and face. Everything is taught slowly and carefully, with your baby’s comfort at the centre of the session.
The aim is not to force a routine or rush through a set sequence. Babies have their own moods, needs, and timing. Some days they are happy to be massaged. Other days they may need feeding, cuddling, changing, or simply a break!
That is completely normal.
Baby massage is about responding to your baby, noticing their cues, and learning how to use gentle touch in a way that supports connection.
Why join my 5-week baby massage course?
When I had my first baby, something I wasn’t expecting was the sense of isolation I felt, particularly living in a rural village. Once my partner had gone back to work, and the initial influx of visiting friends and family had died down, I found the days long and really, really hard.
At the time, there weren’t many baby groups close to my village - anything I wanted to go to was at least a 20-minute drive away. I was also worried about parking, managing the pram, and being in a venue I didn’t know.
What’s more, I worried so much about going to groups where there wasn’t a ‘focus’. I pictured myself sitting in a room with lots of other new mums while they chatted for an hour, and I sat quietly not knowing how to join in!
This sowed a seed - I thought that maybe, one day in the future, I could provide a group for parents to come together where they didn’t have to worry about not fitting in, not being included, or being judged. And when I trained as a baby massage instructor, my chance had finally come to do so!
This is what you can expect on my 5-week baby massage course:
A small group of up to 6 (large enough to meet others, small enough to get individual support from me)
A warm welcome and a friendly, non-judgemental atmosphere
A down-to-earth teacher who knows exactly what it’s like to stand in your shoes!
A beautiful, modern venue with lots of free parking, no steps to navigate, excellent baby changing facilities, and a cosy, calm room
Warm drinks and chocolate biscuits
Handouts to support you when massaging at home and into the future
Mats, cushions, soft lighting, and baby-friendly room scents
Weekly discussion topics centred on parent and baby wellbeing that you’re invited to contribute to (but there’s no pressure if you don’t!)
An optional extra session at the end of the course for partners/other family members to learn baby massage
Why choose a 1:1 private session at home?
For some parents, learning baby massage at home can feel much easier than attending a class, especially in the early months.
Getting out of the house with a baby can be a lot. There are feeds, naps, nappies, bags, timings, car seats, prams, parking, and the general unpredictability of baby life. A home-based 1:1 class removes much of that pressure.
With Tiny Touch Therapy, I come to you and teach in your own home, giving you space to learn at your own pace.
This can be helpful if:
You would prefer a private session
You feel nervous attending a group class
Your baby has an unpredictable routine
You are recovering after birth
You want your partner or family members involved
You would like teaching that is adapted to your baby
You feel more relaxed learning at home
You want time to ask questions without feeling rushed
Your home does not need to be perfect. You do not need a silent room or a perfectly settled baby. Baby massage is taught around real family life. And remember, babies don’t care about tidy rooms, and neither do I!
1:1 baby massage teaching for the whole family
One of the lovely things about Tiny Touch Therapy is that I can teach baby massage to the whole family.
A 1:1 home session means parents, partners, grandparents, and sometimes older siblings can be involved, depending on what feels right for your family.
This can be especially meaningful because baby massage is not only useful for one person. It can help different family members feel more confident handling, soothing, and connecting with the baby.
For partners, it can be a beautiful way to build closeness and feel more involved. For grandparents, it can offer a gentle way to bond. For older siblings, it can help them feel included, with careful guidance and age-appropriate involvement.
The focus is always on safe, gentle, respectful touch.
The benefits of baby massage
Baby massage can offer a range of gentle benefits for both baby and family.
Every baby is different, so it is important not to treat baby massage as a magic fix. It is not a replacement for medical advice, and it should always be adapted to your baby’s needs.
However, many families find baby massage helpful as part of their bonding, calming, and care routine.
Potential benefits may include:
Supporting bonding between baby and parent or caregiver
Encouraging positive, nurturing touch
Helping parents feel more confident handling their baby
Creating calm one-to-one time
Supporting relaxation
Helping families slow down and notice baby’s cues
Providing a gentle routine that can be used at home
Encouraging connection with partners, grandparents, and siblings
For many parents, the biggest benefit is not complicated. It is the chance to pause, be present, and enjoy focused time with their baby.
Supporting bonding and connection
The early months with a baby can be beautiful, but they can also be tiring, emotional, and overwhelming.
You may be recovering from birth, adjusting to broken sleep, learning your baby’s needs, and dealing with all the changes that come with family life. It can be hard to slow down when every day feels full.
Baby massage gives you a simple way to connect.
Through gentle touch, eye contact, voice, and attention, you can create a calm moment with your baby. It can become part of your routine, or simply something you use when the time feels right.
There is no need for perfection. If your baby only enjoys a few minutes, that still counts. If they need a feed halfway through, that is fine. If they are not in the mood that day, you simply stop and try again another time!
Baby massage should always be baby-led.
Learning your baby’s cues
A key part of baby massage is learning to notice and respect your baby’s cues.
During a Tiny Touch Therapy session, I will guide you in watching how your baby responds. This might include signs that they are enjoying the massage, need a pause, want a different position, or have had enough.
This is one of the most valuable parts of baby massage.
Rather than seeing massage as something you “do to” your baby, it becomes something you share with them. You learn to ask permission through your voice and body language, watch their response, and adjust based on what they are telling you.
That helps build confidence, trust, and sensitivity.
A calm space for new parents
Baby massage is for babies, but it can also be reassuring for parents.
Many new mums feel pressure to know what they are doing straight away. And frankly, that pressure is unhelpful nonsense! Nobody becomes confident with a baby by magic. Your confidence grows through support, practice, and time.
A baby massage session in the supportive environment I promise to create gives you space to learn, without feeling judged or worrying that your baby needs to behave in a certain way.
If your baby cries, feeds, sleeps, needs changing, or refuses massage on the day, that is all normal. The session can adapt.
Tiny Touch Therapy baby massage tuition is intended to feel gentle, supportive, and realistic.
What happens during a Tiny Touch Therapy session?
During a baby massage session, I will teach you the techniques step by step.
Our time together usually includes:
A calm introduction
Time to settle your baby
Discussion of when baby massage is suitable
Guidance on oils and safety
Gentle massage techniques
How to read your baby’s cues
How to adapt the massage
Discussion opportunity and time for questions
Suggestions for using baby massage at home
The pace is relaxed. Your baby leads the session.
If your baby needs feeding, changing, cuddling, or a break, we pause. If they fall asleep, we work around that! If they are not ready for massage, I can demonstrate techniques for you to practise another time.
The session is not ruined if your baby behaves like…well…a baby!
When can you start baby massage?
The right time to start baby massage can vary depending on your baby, their health, and your own recovery after birth.
Many parents choose to begin when they feel ready and when their baby is settled enough to enjoy short periods of gentle touch. If your baby was premature, has a medical condition, has recently been unwell, or you have any concerns, it is best to check with your health visitor, GP, midwife, or healthcare provider before starting.
Baby massage should never be forced. If your baby is tired, hungry, unsettled, or not enjoying it, you pause or stop.
That is all part of the learning!
Is baby massage suitable for every baby?
Baby massage can be lovely for many babies, but it is not suitable in every situation.
You should avoid massage or seek advice first if your baby:
Is unwell or has a fever
Has a contagious illness
Has unexplained pain, swelling, or a rash
Has recently had vaccinations and seems unsettled
Has a medical condition that needs professional guidance
Was premature and you have not yet been advised massage is suitable
Has recently had surgery or medical treatment
If in doubt, check with your health visitor, GP, midwife, or healthcare provider.
Baby massage should always be gentle, safe, and appropriate for your baby.
